Michael Thomas, D.V.M.

Dr. Mike Thomas began working in veterinary medicine somewhat by chance two decades ago at the age of sixteen after getting a part time job as a kennel helper at a veterinary clinic near his home in La Porte, TX.  At the time, his goals included a career in computer science or management information systems. Fortunately for him, it became clear very soon after beginning working with animals that he had an aptitude for it.  Thanks to early veterinary mentors who took the time to teach young Mike Thomas about leadership, compassion, and the art and science of medicine, his goals quickly shifted toward becoming a veterinarian.

Dr. Thomas attended Sam Houston State University, where he earned his bachelor's and masters degrees in animal science, conducted research in the field of ruminant parasitology and was active in student-lead clubs all while working as a veterinary assistant at multiple hospitals and clinics.  He founded and lead the Pre-Veterinary Society and served in the student government. After leaving SHSU, Dr. Thomas attended Texas A&M College of Veterinary Medicine, earning his D.V.M. degree in 2015. While at Texas A&M, he developed a particular interest in dermatology and animal behavior; areas of focus that he still enjoys learning about today.

Dr. Thomas' greatest passion is client education. He believes that if a pet owner understands their pet's condition or symptoms, they can be the most valuable part of the health care team and can be empowered to make the best decisions for their pet. Dr. Thomas' practice philosophy is very simple: to treat you and your pet as he would want himself and his pet treated.  The Thomas family includes wife Amberleigh, son Nicholas, and  daughter Makynlee; dogs Dixie, Mater, and Doodle Bug; cats Scout, Patches, and Lucas; and guinea pig Gidget.  Dr. Thomas looks forward to meeting you and your family!
