Dr. Lou, D.O.G. : Pet Poison Emergencies
Hey guys! Dr. Lou here again with some more good advice for all of you awesome pet parents. As a fellow animal, I can personally attest that we love eating. Sometimes, what we eat is not so good for us though. There are a lot of things that are really toxic to us that humans can eat all the time with no problem. Not fair! Chocolate, garlic, onions, xylitol, and some plants are among the many things that can do a lot of damage to little guys like me. If you think that your pet has ingested something dangerous, there are two very important people that need to be called right away; the Pet Poison Helpline and your local animal emergency clinic. Always be sure to call the Pet Poison Helpline first and write down all of the information as directed. The case number is super important because that is what the emergency clinic will be used to formulate a treatment plan with your toxicologist. Next, if told to do so by your toxicologist, call the emergency clinic and start heading that way. Never try to make your pet vomit at home! This can be as dangerous as the toxic substance itself, and cause even more damage to our little bodies.
